A Guide To The 2025 Blue Jean Country Queen

Simon Casey and The Fógues will headline this year’s Blue Jean Country Queen Festival in Athboy, Co Meath.

Sponsored by Le Chéile Credit Union, the festival is organized by Meath Macra na Feirme in collaboration with the community of Athboy will take place over the June Bank Holiday from 30th May to 2nd June. The weekend will feature live music, family-friendly entertainment and the coronation of the 2025 Blue Jean Country Queen.

How Many Queens Are There This Year?

This year we have 21 Queens, selected from counties all over Ireland (including 5 from regions of County Cork). We also have a Queen from New Zealand.

All Queens are chosen by their respective groups to take part in the Blue Jean Country Queen.

Who is Performing?

The Fógues

The Fógues will perform on Saturday 31st May at Blue Jean Country Queen Festival

Cork based trio The Fógues will headline Saturday night of the Blue Jean Country Queen Festival.

Simon Casey

Simon Casey’s career began when he became a standout star of You’re a Star, Ireland’s 2003 televised quest to select its Eurovision Song Contest entry. The show’s popularity catapulted him into the spotlight, with his weekly live performances captivating audiences. Simon has gone to to make regular appearances on shows like The Late Late Show, Open House, and Ireland AM.

Today, Simon has become renowned for delivering unforgettable shows at weddings and events nationwide.

Conor Woods

Athboy native and iRadio DJ Conor Woods will be our emcee for the weekend.

After making his Blue Jean Country Queen Festival debut in 2024, Conor Woods returns to hosting duties this June Bank Holiday Weekend. The Athboy native is a DJ and presenter on iRadio who will not only be in charge of helping you get to know the Queens in their live on-stage interviews but he’ll also be DJing following both bands and there to help crown the 2025 Blue Jean Country Queen!

What Else is On Over The Weekend?

The Pub Crawl

A fixture of the festival for many years, the Pub Crawl will make its return on Friday 31st May starting at 8.30pm following the official opening ceremony in the Darnley Lodge Hotel which takes place at 8pm.

The starting point for the pub crawl will be announced soon.

The Queens’ Interviews

The public will have the chance to see all the Queens in action on Saturday 31st May in St. James’ Hall as they are quizzed by iRadio’s Conor Woods in their on-stage interviews. Doors open 7pm.

Le Chéile Credit Union and Family Fun Day

Main Sponsor Le Chéile Credit Union will host their annual Family Fun Day and BBQ on Saturday 1st June from 2pm. Tickets can be reserved from either their Oldcastle or Athboy branches. You can also book tickets on eventbrite.

Karaoke In Floods

Flood’s Bar on Main Street in Athboy will host their annual afternoon of karaoke from 3pm. Queens, judges, committee, and anyone who wants to blast out a tune are welcome to take part.

The Lark In The Park

Sponsored by Meath Farm Machinery Ltd

Sunday from 12.30 on the Fair Green in Athboy will be a hive of activity. The Lark in the Park will feature live music from The Sandmen and Tunesday as well as vendors, food stalls, children’s entertainment and the Queens playing a game of Heroes vs Villians themed Fancy Dress Football.

Plus the return of the Toy Tractor run where each child entered gets a chance to win a ride on John Deere Gator sponsored by Meath Farm Machinery.

The hit Toy Tractor Run will return at the Lark in the Park on Sunday 1st June.

The Gala Banquet

On Sunday evening in the Darnley Lodge Hotel you are invited to join the Queens, committee, sponsors and other dignitaries for the Gala Banquet in Athboy Convent Commuity Centre at 7pm.

  

Who Picks the Winner and How Do You Decide Who Wins?

The results will be announced on Sunday following the Banquet, traditionally close to midnight. A panel of judges will be following the Queens all weekend and they will be charged with the task of picking a winner. This year the judges will be Brefine O’Brien (Journalist, Agriland), Linda Croston (Cork born co-owner of Croston Flood Recruiting and Events, New York) and Aileen Hart-McMurty (former Meath Blue Jean Country Queen and Athboy local)

The 2024 Judging Panel was Maeve Lalor (Community Represenative), Annika Heinemann (German Arts and Culture Representative) and Catherine Flood (1991 International Miss Macra Winner)
